Minllyn Slate MineMinllyn was initially worked on the surface for slab and only later was it extended underground. It had a dressing mill nearby and used two inclines to ferry processed slate to the railway. The quarry was re-equiped in 1874 and a new mill built on the valley floor. The mine was never very productive and closed in the 1920's. A considerable amount of the original tramway remains together with some of the winches and boiler. The location is popular with groups, but care should be taken as some of the paths are very slippy.Minllyn Slate Mine Guide |
