Bryneglwys Slate MineBryneglwys Slate Quarry started in the 1840's on a small scale and increased production once a narrow gauge railway had been constructed to Talyllyn. The venture wasn't very successful and was put up for sale in 1897. An upturn in the market for slate led to expansion and a further change of ownership occured in 1911. Production continued till 1946 when a serious collapse occurred in the mine and it closed. Since then the area has been forested and many of the buildings destroyed, however there is still a lot to see of interest to the mine explorer both on the surface and underground.Bryneglwys Slate Mine Guide Other useful links to information on the mine: Iain Robinsons description Wikipedia Entry |
